“Where you are is who you are. The further inside you the place moves, the more your identity is intertwined with it. Never casual, the choice of place is the choice of something you crave.” ― Frances Mayes, Under the Tuscan Sun
And Amalfi is the place to go further inside, to reinvent yourself and to rejoice life. During our one week vacation in Italy we saved 2 days only for Amalfi and those two days will be the best days to cherish. If I have to pick a place in Italy to go again and again it will be Amalfi coast. Living in California coastal area has always given me the opportunity to enjoy the ocean breeze, good seafood but Amalfi coast has it's own charm.
We started our journey to Amalfi from Pompeii, took the train to Salerno. The train service was really good. The Pompeii train station was only 1 mile walk from the Pompeii ruin site. We did not buy the train ticket in advance and it was around 6 Euro. After we reached Salerno we took bus to our Airbnb in Amalfi. There is also ferry from Sorrento. We decided to take ferry on the way back from Amalfi. The bus ride was really interesting and you will get to sea ocean, famous lemon garden and all the beautiful tiled houses in the coastal line.

Our Airbnb was 5 minute walk from the Amalfi bus station and it was tucked in the iconic stairs of Amalfi and we had ocean view and the famous amalfi church of Santa Maria Assunta.

Definitely visit the church it is beautiful. To know more about the church go to :http://chiesapositano.it/en/church-of-s-maria-assunta/
Also this place become so lively at night, most of the restaurants are open till 10:30 pm, try their seafood pasta and limoncello. Amalfi is famous for their lemon and limocello. When life gives you lemon make and drink limoncello. You can do some souvenir shopping after dinner if you have time with savoring your sorbet.

We started our next morning with swimming in the ocean at 7am, even at that time the water was warm and we enjoyed it best. You know California coast is cold so we do not get to swim in the ocean but Amalfi coast is a must place to enjoy open water swimming.
After that we had an intimate breakfast with our Airbnb host. She was super sweet, she made breakfast for us and served on locally made hand painted plates :) She is the sweetest Airbnb host I have ever met.
After breakfast we went to explore the staircases and to get lost in that maze.

Here comes the cutest guy with his backpack. This is the stairs from our place towards the streets. If someone asks me what is the best part of Amalfi: is it the ocean, food, friendly people or sorbet? I would not pick any of those rather I would pick the stairs. Those stairs are unique, I kept wondering how come people made a city here.

Amalfi also offers interesting museum like paper museum, the underground museum about ship building. We could not manage time to go fro lemon farm tour but I heard the tours are so popular. Definitely next time for me.

And at the end of the day we took ferry from Amalfi to Salerno and from their took train to Rome.
“A Chinese poet many centuries ago noticed that to re-create something in words is like being alive twice. ” writing about Amalfi made me feel the warmth again.
